ANC Western Cape 90th Anniversary Celebrations

ANC Western Cape 90th Anniversary Celebrations

10 January 2002

The ANC Western Cape will be celebrating its 90th Anniversary with a mass cultural event on Saturday 12 January in the Hout Bay Multi Purpose Centre, from 12 noon. Several choirs and hip-hop groups will be performing at the event.

This event takes place in the context of the ANC making important strides in the Western Cape.

More and more we are gaining the confidence of the people of this province, to the extent that we are today the majority party and equal partner in government.

The cultural event will kick off a year long campaign in which we want to educate and conscientise our society about the history of our struggle and liberation.

Through this campaign we want to raise awareness among our people about the traditions of the movement that have sustained us over the years.

The National Executive Committee of the ANC has declared 2002 as the Year of the Volunteer for Reconstruction and Development. The culture of volunteerism has been a hallmark of the ANC since its inception in 1912. It is this culture which brought apartheid to its knees.

We want, through action, to re-inculcate this culture of service and volunteerism among ANC members and in society more broadly.

To this end we have called on all our branches and members to assist the elderly at pension pay-out points, help with cleaning up the schools, secure the schools, and generally assist with reconstruction and development in our communities.
