Principal expelled ANC welcomes MEC`s decisive action

30 January 2002

The ANC welcomes the decisive action taken by Education MEC André Gaum, for confirming the suspension of Mrs Balakazi Mdingi the former principle of the Joe Slovo High School in Khayelitsha.

She was found guilty by a court of law on charges of fraud, involving her in her personal capacity and an insurance company.

She was charged by the Education Department for misconduct and subsequently suspended. Her appeal was dismissed.

The MEC on Monday asked her to vacate her post and leave the school premises with immediate effect.

Said ANC Provincial Secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha: "The ANC welcomes the decisive action taken by the Minister.

"We support it and urge him to also act against teachers who do not arrive on time and who are not disciplined.

"If we are going to uplift the quality of the education of our children, then it must start with teachers who are disciplined and set an example."
