ANC supports clean Local Government

9 April 2002

ANC Western Cape Provincial Secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha responding to an investigation in the Theewaterskloof Municipality into indications of corruption, said:

"The ANC is aware of the forensic audit and investigation being undertaken in the Theewaterskloof Municipality. The ANC supports the investigation of all evidence of mismanagement or corruption. Our people deserve the clean and good government that the ANC has fought for, especially at the level of local government, which is closest to our people.

"If the investigation in the Theewaterskloof Municipality finds any evidence of wrongdoing, the ANC will act accordingly. The law must be seen to take its course and any ANC members implicated will be held to strict account.

"The ANC stands for good, clean developmental local government. We are committed to making this a reality and will not tolerate any abuse or exploitation of our people in this sphere of government."
