INFORMATION ON THE SON OF MR & MRS RASOOL

Issued by African National Congress Western Cape

16 November 1999

Mr Ebrahim Rasool and Rosieda would sincerely want to thank many people for their prayers, flowers, cards, phone calls and faxes received.

They particularly want to thank the Voice of the Cape radio station for their sustained concern over the condition of their son. A simple name-giving ceremony was held in Hospital, where the grandfather (Ismail Rasool) named the boy Tanwir Sadar.

The first operation on Tanwir's heart last Tuesday was successful and he is now in a stable condition.

Tanwir is now scheduled to undergo a further operation of the heart to switch the main arteries to and from the heart. Probably the best cardiac surgeon, Dr Susan Vosloo, has agreed to perform the operation on Thursday, 18 November 1999 at 09h00.

Mr Rasool said: "With our faith in God, confidence in the medical team, and support from so many people, we are hopeful that Tanwir will survive this operation and be able to lead a normal life afterwards.

"I want to thank the City Park Hospital, paediatrician Dr Chris Hugo-Hamman, Dr Susan Vosloo and the wonderful nursing staff. Once again, I want to thank people for their overwhelming support during this testing period."
