ANC WOMENS LEAGUE PLEDGE SUPPORT FOR PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT'S ANTI-AIDS/HIV PROGRAMMES

ANC WOMENS LEAGUE PLEDGE SUPPORT FOR PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT'S ANTI-AIDS/HIV PROGRAMMES

Issued by African National Congress Western Cape

1 December 1999

The ANC's Womens and Youth Leagues are to hold a march in Cape Town today (Wednesday 1 December 1999) to pledge their support for the Provincial Government's anti-AIDS/HIV programmes.

The march will start at 1pm from the Grand Parade, and will proceed to the Provincial Legislature where a memorandum will be handed over to a representative in the Office of the Acting Premier Mr Peter Marais.

The march will be led by Ms Nomatyala Hangana, Provincial Chairperson and Chairperson of the Housing Standing Committee in the National Assembly, Provincial Secretary Kiki Rwexana and leaders of the Youth League.

It is part of a national programme of the Womens and Youth Leagues to highlight the challenge facing us in fighting the scourge of AIDS.

The pledge to the Provincial Government also comes in the wake of the calls by both our President and Deputy President that we should work in partnership with governments at all levels to fight the disease through education and awareness.
