BOMBLAST A CHILLING REMINDER OF LAST YEAR'S CAMPAIGN OF TERROR

Issued by African National Congress Western Cape

28 November 1999

The ANC Western Cape says that today's bomblast at St Elmo's in Camps Bay has all the hallmarks of the terror campaign which was launched during last year's festive season. ANC provincial leader and leader of the Opposition Ebrahim Rasool said ;

"What happened today is a chlling reminder of the terror campaign our province was subjected to last year. Those responsible appear to have an agenda to destroy tourism in our country and instill fear and terror in the Western Cape.

"This act of terror comes as a great shock to us all. Our province has enjoyed a period of relative peace after the successes achieved by Operation Good Hope.

"There is no place for complacency. We simply cannot afford a bloody festive season and we cannot afford to give any space to those who thrive on terror.

"The ANC in the Western Cape calls for calm. Our anger must harden our resolve to find those responsible. We call on the people of the Western Cape to come forward and assist the police with the hunt for these terrorists.

"Our deepest condolences go those who's loved ones have suffered terrible injury. Our prayers go out to those who are in a critical condition." said Mr Rasool
