Xenophobic attacks on Somalis

23 August 2006

The ANC condemns the recent attacks on Somali refugees in the strongest terms possible and also decries the fact that no one has been arrested in any of these cases.

According to the police five Somalis have been killed during the last month; four in Khayelitsha and one in Mfuleni on Monday night. No arrests have been made in any of these cases as investigations are still continuing.

“We cannot allow these attacks to continue unabated. More dangerously though, we cannot allow these incidents to go unattended,” Max Ozinsky, ANC provincial deputy secretary said.

The ANC calls on the police to leave no stone unturned in their search for the killers of these innocent Somalis and we also urge those who have information on any of these incidents to come forwards.

For more information and/or comment, please do not hesitate to contact Max Ozinsky, ANC provincial deputy secretary on 082 414 7147.
