The fourth ANC Provincial Conference is being held this weekend at the Peninsula Technikon Sports Hall. Registration for the 600 plus delegates begins this afternoon [Friday 26th] from 15h00.

A Gala function will begin the Conference tonight at the OR Thambo Hall in Mew Way, Khayelitsha. Social Development Minister Zola Skwyiya will address delegates and guests from business, sport, media and civil society at this event.

Saturday`s programme starts at 09h00 with prayers and the national anthem. Provincial Chairperson Ebrahim Rasool will open Conference. The key note address will be delivered by ANC Secretary General Kgalema Mothlante. Thereafter conference credentials, the rules of order and agenda will be adopted and the Electoral Institute of SA [EISA], who are overseeing conference elections will declare the nominations for the top five positions in the Provincial Executive Committee [PEC]. At this point the programme will close to the media, reopening for EISA`s announcement of the outcome of elections for the `top five` at approcimately 16h00. In the interim, the secret ballot will take place and the Secretary and Treasurer`s reports be presented to Conference.

Sunday`s programme will all start from 09h00 with commissions. Resolutions will also be tabled on inter alia issues of rural development, agriculture and fishing, land and housing, media and communication, women, political strategy, the restructuring of state assets and evictions and rates. The outcome of the election of the 13 additional members of the PEC will be announced from 15h00 which will be open to the media. At this time, a photo session and interview opportunities will be given in the Sports Hall.
