ANC PEC expresses its shock and outrage over crime against children

26 November 2001

The Provincial Executive Committee of the ANC Western Cape met on Monday evening and expressed its shock and horror at the abduction and rape of an eight month old baby over the weekend.

The PEC has decided to dedicate this holy period through the month of December to highlight the plight of children and to call on all our communities to care for children and look after their safety.

Already ANC branches and structures in the Northern Suburbs together with Members of Parliament and Provincial Legislature and Councillors have been mobilizing the community in support of the victim and her parents and the ANC believes this must be done pro-actively with all children who are vulnerable. The ANC believes this should be done under the banner of: Every child is my Child.

On Tuesday evening a church service will be held at the Rafa Church (Balvenie Ave) in Elsies River, from 18h30.

We hope that services such as these and prayers in all places of worship will address a fundamental problem in our society, that is the state of moral degeneration that our communities are susceptible to.

The ANC is also mobilizing the community and other organisations in support of a mass demonstration along the De La Rey Road close to where the child has been found.
