The ANC in the Western Cape is overjoyed at the choice by the National Executive of the ANC of Deputy Speaker Lynne Brown as the ANC`s candidate for the Unicity Mayor.

Provincial leader Ebrahim Rasool said;

"We are overjoyed at this appointment. Lynne is a very strong manager and a strategic leader who is ideally placed to lead our team in the Unicity.

"She has excelled in the provincial legislature as the chair of the standing committees of community services and the committee on health and welfare.

"Lynne has been an active member of the standing committee on public accounts since 1994 and has developed an intimate understanding of the budgetary process and financial management of the provincial government and local authorities in the province.

"As Deputy Speaker she has won the respect of both staff and MPL`s. While committed to the transformation of the legislature she has been able to maintain the confidence of all staff members.

"The ANC needs firm, decisive and inculsive leadership - this is what Lynne Brown brings to the job.

"As an active member of the ANC`s provincial working committee, she has also demonstrated an ability to deal firmly with organizational isssues.

"She is a very popular choice within ANC circles. Lynne is also deeply rooted in Western Cape politics. She was central to the building of the women`s movement in th 1980`s and played a prominent role in UDF structures.

"As our spokesperson on health and welfare in the legislature, she has a deep and compassionate understanding of the issues facing the people in the Western Cape.

"As mayor of the unicity she will bring strong management, compassion and organizational cohesion to the governance of Cape Town.
