ANC to express outrage against violence in Middle-East

10 October 2000

The ANC Western Cape will be having a placard demonstration to express our outrage at the further escalation of tensions and violence that threatens to engulf the Middle East Region into a full-blown war.

The demonstration will take place on Thursday 12 October during lunch-time(13h00 14h00) in front of the Israel Embassy in Spin Street, Cape Town.

The demonstration will be led by ANC Western Cape Provincial Secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha and other members of the Provincial Executive Committee.

ANC Members of Parliament, current Councillors, Candidates for the local government elections and leaders of the Cosatu-SACP Alliance will also be attending the lunch-time demonstration.

We will join millions of other peace and freedom-loving citizens of the world in condemning the violence and the role of the Israeli government in the violence.

We believe the Israeli government and those intent on denying the Palestinian`s right to self-determination stand accused of not implementing international agreements which would lead to the creation of a Palestinian state.

It is this stubbornness and unwillingness which has led to the tragic death of innocent children and women and the ongoing violence in the region. About 90 lives have been lost in the conflict.
