ANC to Launch National Election manifesto in Beaufort West

2 October 2000

The ANC National Local Government Election Manifesto to be launched in Beaufort West on 7th and 8th October 2000

The ANC will be launching its national election manifesto at a series of events in and around Beaufort West this weekend. The program will culminate in a rally on Sunday afternoon at the Rustdene Sportsfield in Beaufort West where ANC President Thabo Mbeki will address Karoo residents from the Eastern, Western and Northern Cape.

The rally starts at 13h00 and will feature cultural acts such as Brenda Fassie, Vannie Kaap and Stompie Vavi.

Members of the NEC and ANC Ministers will be deployed to various Karoo towns during the week and take part in various build-up activities (this program will be made available soon.)

The Karoo has been chosen given the importance of the fight against poverty, both in the rural as well as the metropolitan areas, and the ANC`s emphasis on the role of local government in implementing the national integrated rural development strategy.

Deputy President Jacob Zuma will meet opinion makers and newspaper editors from the Karoo at a function in Beaufort West on Saturday evening. It is expected that the ANC`s metro mayoral candidates as well as mayoral candidates for all strategic towns will be announced by the Deputy President.
