Public transport crisis: ANC to consult communities

31 May 2000

The ANC Western Cape is to hold a mass rally tonight (Wednesday 31 May) to consult with the communities on how to deal with the public transport crisis.

Safety and Security Minister Steve Tswethe, Welfare and Population Development Minister Zola Skweyiya, Western Cape Leader Ebrahim Rasool, Provincial Secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha, Cosatu and SACP leaders will all attend the rally.

The meeting will take place at the Lusaka Community Hall in Nyanga, and will start at 6pm.

The ANC Western Cape has already declared its support to the idea of closing the taxi ranks and deploying soldiers to ensure the safety of commuters, bus drivers and taxi drivers.

In fact, the Western Cape authorities have failed to act decisively and we are seeking the intervention of National Government.

This evening we will be informing the community of the ANCĀ¹s view of the current crisis and respond to their demands.
