ANC Western Cape pays tribute to Madiba

ANC Western Cape pays tribute to Madiba

11 February 2000

The ANC Western Cape will pay tribute to Madiba in our provincial general council tommorrow (Saturday 12 February 2000).

This will be an opportune time for us to celebrate with our more than 350 branch representatives, ten regions, and provincial and national leadership.

This is the ANC`s first Provincial General Council this millenium, and also the first after the ANC became the majority party in the June 2 elections last year.

It is taking place at the Western Cape College of Education in Kuilsriver, and start from 08h00 in the morning.

Western Cape Leader Ebrahim Rasool will open the conference (09h00) after which Joel Netshitenze (ANC NEC) will deliver the keynote address.

As the Western Cape we were privileged to host Madiba during his prison years. We hosted his first steps into freedom. We hosted his first speech in Cape Town.

When the exiles returned, we hosted the first rally. His first official speech as President of the new SA was also here in Cape Town.

Not only the ANC should be proud of having produced such a fine cadre, soldier and leader - but the whole country should indeed be proud of having produced Madiba.

We shall forever remember Rolihlahla. May his last years be full of joy and happiness.
