ANC programme regarding the opening of schools

ANC programme regarding the opening of schools

17 January 2000

ANC Members of Parliament and Provincial Legislature will this week visit various schools in their respective constituencies to acquaint themselves with the conditions on the schools. The visits will start from this morning when schools reopen for this year.

These visits will continue until next week after which the ANC will compile a report card on the opening of the schools.

The MP`s will look at the conditions of the schools, whether textbooks arrive on time, whether the school has sufficient stationery, whether there is enough resources like libraries, science labs, registration problems and overcrowding, etc. and whether schooling generally starts on time.

Some of the schools to be visited:

Lamberts Bay - Marius Fransman, ANC provincial deputy secretary - there are two primary schools in this area, one for coloureds and one for whites. The ANC`s view is that one must become an integrated non-racial primary school and the other one a secondary school since high school pupils from both races go to school elswhere

Modderdam High (Bontheuwel) & ID Mkhize High (Guguletu) - Ebrahim Rasool, ANC Provincial Leader, Rhoda Joemat, MP and Provincial Treasurer and Nomatyala Hangana, MP.

Harry Gwala High (Belhar) - Yousuf Gabru, ANC Spokesperson on Education in the Provincial Legislature.

NOTE: All MP`s must visit their respective schools in their constituencies in the next two weeks and forward a report to the Provincial Office.
