ANC condems Wynberg bomb blast

12 January 2000

The Provincial Working Committee of the ANC Western Cape at its first meeting on Wednesday 12 January 2000 condemed the bomb blast at the Wynberg Magistrates Court in the strongest terms.

Commenting on this, Provincial Secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha said:

"Those responsible are cowards and they will not forever be able to hide and run away from the long arm of the law.

"We are fully behind the efforts of the authorities to apprehend the culprits. We call upon the communities to help fighting crime by being the eyes and ears of the police.

"The Provincial Working Committee also welcome the suspension of Commissioner Niel van Heerden.

"This is the second time that he is alleged to be embroiled in a controversy of this nature. This is no way to build the image of the police.

"For a policeman who had ambitions to become the Provincial Commissioner, there is something wrong with this man."
