ANC expels city councillor after assault on woman

16 May 2002

The ANC`s Provincial Disciplinary Committee (PDC) expelled Phindile Nelson Dantile, 30, with immediate effect.

Dantile is a PR Councillor in the City of Cape Town. This means that in terms of Section 27(c) of the Municipal Structures Act, he loses his seat.

The charges relate to incidences of assault on his ex-girlfriend. Consequently he was expelled for engaging in behaviour which brought the Movement into disrepute and which manifested a flagrant violation of the moral integrity expected of ANC public representatives.

The ANC is of the view that violence against women could not be tolerated under any circumstances. Women have the right to have their dignity and bodily integrity respected.
