Peter Mokaba - ANC Western Cape mourns loss of dedicated revolutionary

10 June 2002

It is with great shock that the ANC Western Cape has learnt of the death of a veteran of the Young lions, Comrade Peter Mokaba.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday 13 June, from 18h00 at the Johnson Ngwevela Community Hall in Langa, Washington Street.

Said ANC Western Cape Provincial Secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha: "Comrade Peter`s death, coming so soon after the death of Comrade Steve Tshwete, is a profound loss to the African National Congress and the country.

He is leaving us at a time when we are facing great challenges like the historic National Conference at the end of the year in Stellenbosch.

"Comrade Peter was a giant of the Youth Movement. The first and last President of Sayco, he was an embodiment of youth aspirations and ideals. True to this cause he died in the month of June, the ANC¹s youth focus month.

"Comrade Peter was one of the upcoming Young Lions in the Movement. He was a dedicated revolutionary, willing to lay down his live for the cause of the masses.

"He was a fearless leader of a young generation of leaders waiting in the wings to take forward the baton of the mass democratic movement.

"An African and South African patriot, his loss will be deeply felt in the Western Cape and the entire democratic movement.

"We extend our condolences to the family. Hamba Kahle Comrade Peter. Freedom or Death Your victory was certain!"
