ANC-WC demands an apology from UDM

10 September 2007

The ANC demands an apology from the UDM and provincial leader Dumisani Ximbi, for accusing it of responsibility in the shooting of Stellenbosch Deputy Mayor Kulile Shubani.

It has now become evident that a UDM member, Moses Limba will appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrates Court tomorrow, charged with the shooting.

Provincial Secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha said; "By recklessly accusing the ANC when one of their own members stands accused of this criminal behaviour, the UDM has shot itself in the foot, not once but twice." (The pun is intended)

"The ANC has repeatedly drawn attention to the irregular behaviour of the UDM in Stellenbosch. This includes the awarding of a security tender to a UDM aligned company to guard Mr Shubani without due process and after shots had been fired at his house to fake a security threat."

"This is in addition to the fact that Mr Shubani was in possession of a fraudulent learners and drivers licence and after his statements that he would continue to drive."

"The DA in this municipality must not allow itself to be blinded to this disgraceful conduct because it relies on Mr Shubani for control of the municipality."
