ANC WCape Condemns the UWC violence in the strongest possible terms

11 November 2015

The ANC in the Western Cape condemns the acts of violence at the University of Western Cape in the strongest possible terms. We utterly condemn the disruptions of more than 3000 students writing exams today and we want to make it absolutely clear that the Right to protest does not include a licence to disrupt the lives and rights of others.

As the ANC we condemn the criminal acts by certain students that have become part of this ongoing stand off and we call on the law enforcement agencies to ensure immediate stability on campus.

There is no other way to solve the problems of this institution except around the table. We also discourage all reckless statements that are not sensitive to the obvious charged atmosphere and we call on all university leaders to resolve this latest impasse urgently.

Students have a right to write their exams in a conducive environment and the University has the responsibility to ensure that this take place urgently.
