ANC WL Statement on the 16 days of Activism against woman and children abuse

26 November 2015

It was with shock and a deep sense of loss that the ANC Women`s League learnt about the death of the 21 year old student, Amanda Duze who was raped and killed in her own backyard on Sunday.

This comes at the start of 16 days of activism against violence against women and children.

The ANC Womans League stands with the community and took part in in a march to show their solidarity with the community of Gugulethu who marched against the granting of the bail for the alleged perpetrator.

This cruel incident is once again a sign of the disregard of the value of life of women. It comes at a time when the community of Mfuleni is reacting to the release on bail of another alleged perpetrator who raped 4 children in that community. On the 30th of November we will join the communities of Mfuleni and Eerste River when they will march against the bail hearing of another man committing the same barbaric crime against the so vulnerable in our communities.

In the spirit of this years theme of "Count me in. Together moving a non violent South Africa forward", we call on, not only women, but the men of the Western Cape to join in our actions to create a South Africa of non violence against women and children.
